72 Hours of Hiking and Biking the Best Temples and Shrines in Kyoto

Thumb besudesu abroad profile By Beth Williams • For Peter & Louise's trip to Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan
"Kyoto is a city steeped with culture and history for Japan. This previous capital city is known for it's Shrines and Temples as there is almost one on ever corner, and 17 of them are registered UNESCO Heritage Sites. Japan is a biker's paradise with bike lanes, cheap bike rentals, and even organized tours which make getting around the city easy. Biking is a great way to great from Shrine to Temple quickly, although do be prepared to do some hiking at some of the most popular and worthwhile ones, which of course you'll be visiting. "

Originally from Chicago, I studied Japanese language and Japanese culture for almost 6 years before finally studying abroad in Japan. As part of a year long program I lived in Osaka, and spent most my weekends in either Kyoto, Nara and Kobe as they are so close by train. From hiking mountains with monkeys in Kyoto to biking across the Awaji Island bridge-- I'm here to prove there's adventure for everyone in Japan.
