How to Pack a Carry On Suitcase for Women

hi I’m Jocelyn with Walters world and
we’re going to pack for a two to six
week trip in Europe for a woman so um to
quote my favorite architect Mies van der
Rohe less is more take as little as
possible because then you get to bring
back a whole lot more in shopping in
Europe you look at me better right so
we’ll go through quickly what I usually
take and I go really minimal and I bring
a whole lot back I really like to take a
bunch of dresses because one it’s a
whole outfit in one piece of clothing
too
I can always throw in some tights and
make it a little bit warmer I also take
short dresses so short dresses are great
in and of themselves as dress but I can
also throw them over a pair of tights or
a pair of leggings or khaki pants or
whatever you want
so those are my those are my go-to
things I always take a button-down or
two cotton poly blends are good because
the poly allows them to wrinkle less
always pack a little bit of downy
wrinkle release err and that will help
too
I usually take a jacket of some sort at
some point it’s going to drink too rain
while you’re while you’re traveling so I
always take a little light rain jacket
that can roll up really small pajamas
I like scarves because if I go somewhere
where say I have something sleeveless on
and I go into a church and I need to put
something over my shoulders and you’re
required to cover so a little scarf is
nice you can tie it around your neck you
can take the place of jewelry take one
bra your favorite bra wear your other
favorite bra don’t take anything that
isn’t uncomfortable underwear bras shoes
socks everything needs to be comfortable
because you’re going to be in these
things for a long period of time and
take five to six pairs of underwear five
to six pairs of socks you can wash all
that in the sink and I take a little bit
of tide to do that with I also take
these little things
spot dots for your feet because you
never know and they don’t take up any
room whatsoever I throw a couple in my
purse I always buy a new pair of this
little footy inserts just in case
because when you’re walking for six or
eight hours your feet can get pretty
tired I always take tampons
I hate European tampons it’s just my
thing you may find something different
but it’s something I won’t take though I
won’t leave home without so I’ve got a
capstan that can be a shirt or a dress
I’ve got my my button-down two pairs of
pants one short pair one regular pair
both pretty neutral colors so they can
go with a lot of things I always always
buy at least one pair of jeans when I go
to Europe I like them so that’s always
something good I actually a couple of
these dresses I have bought in Europe
that way always feel like I fit in if
I’m wearing European clothing I don’t
feel like I stand out so much as a
tourist might just be in my head I
always pack a couple of tank tops in
black and white so that if I need them I
can always layer things another good
idea if you’re traveling somewhere a
little bit chilly grab um a cardigan or
two I usually just take the jacket but
it’s always a good idea um another thing
European women don’t wear a lot of
makeup generally so I don’t take a lot
of makeup I take pretty basic stuff
overall face makeup my moisturizer some
blush or bronzer mascara and maybe an
eyeliner and you know as a brunette that
can be used for you know eyeliner lip
liner whatever I don’t know about
blondes sorry
a couple hair bands I always take really
neutral colored nail polish because I
figure if it chips you don’t notice it
as much and you can kind of slap some
more over it and it doesn’t it doesn’t
show as much another thing you need to
take our washcloth for whatever reason
European hotels don’t typically give you
washcloths so I always take a few
usually one for each of us in the family
and I just wash them after we use
them and hang them to dry always take
baby ones too because baby washcloths
are tiny and they don’t take up much
space I always take a can of dry shampoo
you never know you might want to get up
and be out the door at 6:00 in the
morning and not really have time to wash
and dry your hair so dry shampoo does
the trick um I don’t take an American
hair dryer most hotels have hair dryers
but since it’s the only hair appliance I
particularly use I bought wine when I
was in Europe a little travel um hair
dryer and then I don’t have to worry
about it blowing up because it has the
the Euro plug in it and I think the euro
plug is really important because quite
frankly I have had friends who have had
curling irons and hair dryers and things
kind of overload while they were using
them it’s not a pretty sight so I just
went ahead and splurged and got one in
Europe so this is all that I’m taking
I’m taking a red belt to go with my red
shoes my red shoes will pretty much go
with all of those outfits makes that
easy a pair of black sandals that will
go with all of those outfits for the
most part and I always take a pair of
really bright colored shoes this is
because I have kids I dress my kids in
bright colored clothes so they can find
me I always have pair of bright colored
shoes for those really busy places like
you know when you’re at the Louvre and
there’s a gazillion other people there
in June my kid can find my bright yellow
shoes if he were to get separated from
us so that’s sort of what we do another
thing is all our toiletries this is for
my husband and I both and also for the
kids
I’ve got contact solution razors q-tips
lotion I get a little thing of
toothpaste because when I get over there
I know I’m going to buy a big thing of
my favorite toothpaste that I can only
get in Italy face wash deodorant here’s
a little thing my husband and I get an
invisible solid and it has no smell so
we can both use it we also share the
same
razor we just bring a few extra
razerheadz it just makes life easier or
whatever you can trim down means that
you can bring something else back some
dental floss and toothpaste and
sometimes they bring some soap just
because sometimes my life makes you feel
like emmawho so that’s all our good
stuff and so we’ll just pack all this up
really quickly and with everything when
I pack I roll I take everything fold it
down the middle the sleeves over hoods
if there are any and roll as tight as
you can because the less space you’re
taking up with clothes and more stuff I
can bring back some of the things that
we bring back and we found to be really
great souvenirs we like to buy paintings
and things from street vendors feel like
I was boarding starving artists and it’s
also flat packs nicely we usually just
buy them and then have them framed we’re
lucky enough that my dad’s wife and
framing gallery so she does that for us
and they’re kind of cool it’s always a
good memory there’s always a good story
behind it and even our kids have started
doing that our five year old last year
picked up some really cool things in
Spain with the Bulls on them and so it’s
a good memory for him too so I usually
start with all the big things first when
I’m rolling everything up and then I’ll
fill in the little spaces with socks and
underwear and things and built some
scarves
so I’m fitting all this stuff into a
carry-on size suitcase
because I don’t like to have to go
through baggage claim and everything if
I can avoid it so you know it’s just
relieving one little bit of stress and
we always travel with our kids so if you
can relieve any bit of stress when
traveling with children do it another
thing to kind of keep in mind is
especially in southern Europe women
don’t wear shorts I don’t know why it’s
just a cultural thing and so you’re
usually in dresses and a Spanish and
Italian women especially noir was
beautifully beautifully dressed um and I
feel I feel very heat under dress
sometimes so when I know I’m going
somewhere like that I never take shorts
and if I decide that I want some I can
usually stop somewhere and find
something but because they don’t wear
them they don’t sell a lot of them so I
was trying to you know we fit in as much
as we possibly can I mean we’re
Americans we’re always going to look
like Americans but I think it helps so
I’ve got all the big stuff in already in
suitcase isn’t even full and now I’m
going to start kind of wedging the tiny
stuff in between all those little those
little pieces there and hopefully I’m
going to have a whole lot of room for
shopping I’ve got pretty much everything
in I’m just kind of stuff in the last
bits and pieces the socks and things in
here
um I think I’ve decided I’m going to
take my makeup on the plane with me it’s
the one thing that I don’t want to have
to buy all new out when I’m there so
just take it with me throw these in here
I’ve got my suit suit in there my shoes
I’m just going to split those in here
really quick and in the front pockets um
I’ve got those little extras and so this
is it this is this is what I’m going to
take for two to six weeks in Europe of
course when I come back I promise you it
will be completely full maybe even
overweight that’s it for Walters world
and you can go check us out at WWE world
