About half of the country’s territory is occupied by ridges, plateaus and the Cordillera Plateau; the eastern outskirts of the Cordillera belt form the ridges of the Rocky Mountains (4000 m). The highest point of the country is Mount McKinley (6193 m) in Alaska. In the east of the USA, there are Appalachian mountains (2037 m). Between the Cordilleras and the Appalachians, the vast internal plains (Central, Great) and the Lower Silesian plain stretch.
On the border with Canada is the largest lake system in the world – the Great Lakes. The main US rivers are the Mississippi with the tributaries of Missouri and Ohio, Colombia, Colorado, and the Yukon.

Since the USA is located in several climatic zones, the climate in its different regions differs significantly from each other. Most of the country is located in a temperate climatic zone – the summer is hot here, and winters – on the contrary very cold. The coldest winter days fall in January. In the south of the country even in sunny winter weather remains, and the temperature reaches +20 degrees.
